She was a performer also a fashion designer and a music pioneer. She was Mexican-American, but she was also a traditional. She brought Tejano into the mainstream of music. In the same way that most people grieve a celebrity who has died far too young, her death was untimely and shattered the progress of her career. Through the years, her people were inspired to work even harder to make sure that Selena's achievements would not be forgotten. The tragic death of Selena by a gunman triggered an outpouring of emotion in Latino communities, similar with the reaction to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's. The music of Selena the singer who was wildly popular in Latino Communities across North America touched people young and old. Selena may have been hailed by some as an Latina Madonna, but she's still an excellent example to follow. Selena's family values off stage as well as her involvement in AIDS awareness programs provide a great example.
